Marietta Alimony Attorneys

Experienced Spousal Support Lawyers

Also known as maintenance or support, alimony is awarded to provide for the needs of a spouse after the dissolution of marriage. Alimony may be awarded to either spouse with a few exceptions.

Some factors which are considered in alimony include the contribution of each spouse to the acquisition of the marital property (which can include work around the house, with children, and aiding in the career of the other spouse), the length of the marriage, the financial resources held by each spouse, the age of each spouse, the physical and emotional condition of each spouse, the value of the spouses’ separate properties, the earning capacity of each spouse, liabilities or financial obligations of each spouse, the standard of living established during the marriage, and the time necessary for a spouse to receive education in order to find employment. There are certain actions, such as adultery, which prevent a party from receiving alimony.
